General description
Temporary Position: Summer Field Technician and Crew Lead
Salary: Crew: $18.00 hourly, Crew Lead: $20-22 based on experience.
Work Schedule: Late-May to late-September, hours may vary depending on backcountry trips
Positions: 2 crew lead positions, 4 crew member positions
Location: Yosemite National Park
Duties: Incumbent performs technical field work in support of Yosemite National Park’s sugar pine restoration plan. Primary duties will include field data collection and some lab-based data organization and analysis. Specific duties include hiking and backpacking to remote field sites in Yosemite National Park to assess drought impacts, as well as the spread and severity of white pine blister rust, an invasive pathogen. Field work includes collecting sugar pine demographic data, making careful observations and detailed notes of symptoms in the field, and potentially extracting tree samples for laboratory analysis.
Crew leads will be in charge of crew, trip planning, crew safety, data collection and quality control. Crew Leads will work closely with the Project Manager, Jennifer Cribbs, and the project PI, Joan Dudney.
Physical Demands: Work is physically demanding and includes walking, bending, climbing, and lifting of equipment up to 60 pounds when in the field, sometimes during adverse conditions.
Preferred Qualifications: Camping, backpacking, or other outdoor experiences; coursework or work experience related to biology, forestry, forest pathology, and forest demography.
